Description
Van Gogh’s The Sower, study, hand-painted in oil
Painted in his early Dutch years, around 1883, this study shows a lone sower striding across a bare field, casting seed with a broad gesture under a wide sky. The sower, drawn from Van Gogh’s hero Millet, was a subject he would return to all his life as an emblem of faith, labour and renewal; here, in the sober browns and greys of his beginnings, the single figure already carries a quiet, rooted power.
Our version is a hand-painted oil reproduction, brushed onto canvas by a senior studio artist so the striding sower and earthy tones keep the character of the original.
Where a figure landscape belongs
Its sober, earthy tones suit a study, a hallway or a considered interior, and pair well with wood and warm light.
