Description
Van Gogh’s View of a River with Rowing Boats, hand-painted in oil
Painted near Asnières outside Paris in 1887, this bright riverside shows rowing boats moored along the bank of the shimmering Seine, with the far shore and open sky beyond. Van Gogh spent that spring and summer painting the sunlit banks of the river alongside his Impressionist and Pointillist friends; here the sparkling water and light air are built from small, separate touches of fresh colour, calm and full of light.
Our version is a hand-painted oil reproduction, brushed onto canvas by a senior studio artist so the boats and shimmering water keep the freshness of the original.
Where a riverside scene belongs
Its fresh, sunny palette suits a living room, a bedroom or a bright hallway, and pairs beautifully with pale walls, wood and greenery.
