Description
Van Gogh’s The Sower, hand-painted in oil
Painted in Arles in 1888, this is one of Van Gogh’s several versions of the sower, a subject he loved above almost all others. A lone sower strides across a field casting seed, worked in the strong colour and firm strokes of his southern year. Inspired by Millet but wholly his own, the sower stands for renewal, faith and the endless cycle of the land, a simple figure charged with deep meaning.
Our version is a hand-painted oil reproduction, brushed onto canvas by a senior studio artist so the striding sower and strong colour keep the power of the original.
Where a symbolic landscape belongs
Strong and symbolic, it suits a living room, a study or a hallway, and pairs well with warm woods and considered interiors.
