Description
Van Gogh’s Thatched Cottages in the Sunshine, hand-painted in oil
Painted at Auvers-sur-Oise in 1890, in the last months of his life, this shows a cluster of old, thatched cottages glowing in the sun among fresh green gardens under a bright sky. Van Gogh loved the ancient thatched roofs of Auvers, which reminded him of his native north; here the warm roofs, green growth and blue sky are worked in vigorous, rhythmic strokes, a bright, life-filled village scene.
Our version is a hand-painted oil reproduction, brushed onto canvas by a senior studio artist so the thatched cottages and vigorous strokes keep the vitality of the original.
Where a village scene belongs
Its warm, fresh tones suit a living room, a kitchen or a bright hallway, and pair beautifully with wood, greenery and natural light.
