Description
Van Gogh’s Avenue of Poplars at Sunset, hand-painted in oil
Painted near Nuenen in 1884, Avenue of Poplars at Sunset sets a row of tall, slender poplars in silhouette against a low, glowing sun, a small figure on the road between them. Van Gogh caught the charged light of dusk behind the bare trunks in warm oranges and deep tones, an early, atmospheric study of the effect of light he would pursue for the rest of his life.
Our version is a hand-painted oil reproduction, brushed onto canvas by a senior studio artist so the silhouetted poplars and glowing sky keep the mood of the original.
Where a sunset scene belongs
Its warm, glowing tones suit a living room, a bedroom or a hallway, and pair beautifully with wood and warm light.
