Description
Van Gogh’s Bedroom in Arles, hand-painted in oil
This is one of the three versions Van Gogh painted of his own bedroom in the Yellow House at Arles, made in 1889 after the first. Lilac-blue walls, a butter-yellow bed and everyday things in simple pairs fill the tilted little room, which he flattened and simplified on purpose to make the whole picture feel like rest itself, his image of the settled, hopeful home he longed for.
Our version is a hand-painted oil reproduction, brushed onto canvas by a senior studio artist so the bold flat colour and homely mood keep the character of the original.
Where The Bedroom belongs
Few paintings suit a bedroom as perfectly, and it works equally in a living room, a hallway or a guest room. Its blue and yellow pair beautifully with wood, cream walls and warm light.
