Description
Van Gogh’s Cottage and Woman with Goat, hand-painted in oil
Painted in Nuenen in 1885, this shows a low, thatched Brabant cottage with a peasant woman and a goat before it, set among trees under a wide sky. Van Gogh loved these humble country scenes of home and small livestock, and painted the cottage, figure and animal as one settled rural whole; in the warm, sober earth tones of his Dutch period, it has a rooted, gently pastoral feeling.
Our version is a hand-painted oil reproduction, brushed onto canvas by a senior studio artist so the cottage, woman and goat keep the mood of the original.
Where a country scene belongs
Its warm, earthy tones suit a study, a hallway or a country-style living room, and pair well with wood and warm light.
