Description
Van Gogh’s Cottage with Trees and Peasant Woman, hand-painted in oil
Painted in Nuenen in 1885, this shows a low, thatched Brabant cottage nestled among trees, with a peasant woman at work nearby under a soft sky. Van Gogh loved these humble dwellings, which he called ‘human nests’, and the country people who lived in them; here the cottage, sheltering trees and small figure are worked as one rooted whole in the warm, sober tones of his Dutch period.
Our version is a hand-painted oil reproduction, brushed onto canvas by a senior studio artist so the cottage, trees and figure keep the mood of the original.
Where a country scene belongs
Its warm, earthy tones suit a study, a hallway or a country-style living room, and pair well with wood and warm light.
