Description
Van Gogh’s Ears of Wheat, hand-painted in oil
Painted at Auvers-sur-Oise in June 1890, Ears of Wheat fills the whole canvas with a dense, close-up screen of green wheat stalks and ripening ears, with no sky and no horizon, just the living wheat itself, rippling with movement. Van Gogh wanted to capture ‘the murmur of the ears swaying in the breeze’; it is one of his most modern, near-abstract nature studies.
Our version is a hand-painted oil reproduction, brushed onto canvas by a senior studio artist so the dense wheat and rippling strokes keep the freshness of the original.
Where a fresh nature study belongs
Its cool, immersive greens suit a bedroom, a living room or a bright hallway, and pair beautifully with pale walls, wood and greenery.
