Description
Van Gogh’s Edge of a Wood, hand-painted in oil
Painted at The Hague in 1882, this is one of Van Gogh’s earliest oil paintings, made just as he began to work in colour. It shows a stand of slender trees at the edge of a wood, a small figure among the trunks, the ground carpeted with fallen leaves. Worked in warm autumn browns and greens, it already shows his deep feeling for the moods of nature and the quiet drama of the woodland.
Our version is a hand-painted oil reproduction, brushed onto canvas by a senior studio artist so the trees and autumn tones keep the mood of the original.
Where a woodland scene belongs
Its warm, earthy tones suit a study, a hallway or a country-style living room, and pair well with wood and warm light.
