Description
Van Gogh’s Entrance to a Quarry near Saint-Remy, hand-painted in oil
Painted at Saint-Rémy in 1889, this looks into a rough, rocky hollow cut into the hills near the asylum, its broken boulders and scrubby banks worked in cool greens, ochres and violet under a pale sky. Van Gogh found a strange, rugged beauty in these bare stone places, and painted this one in restless, rhythmic strokes, a powerful, elemental fragment of the Provence country.
Our version is a hand-painted oil reproduction, brushed onto canvas by a senior studio artist so the broken rock and cool colour keep the character of the original.
Where a rugged landscape belongs
Its cool greens and ochres suit a study, a living room or a hallway, and pair well with wood, stone and warm light.
