Description
Van Gogh’s Entrance to a Quarry, hand-painted in oil
Painted at Saint-Rémy in 1889, Entrance to a Quarry looks into a rough, rocky hollow cut into the hills near the asylum, its broken boulders and scrubby banks worked in earthy ochres, greens and violet. Van Gogh found a strange, rugged beauty in these bare stone places, and painted this one in thick, restless strokes, a powerful, elemental fragment of the Provence country.
Our version is a hand-painted oil reproduction, brushed onto canvas by a senior studio artist so the broken rock and earthy colour keep the character of the original.
Where a rugged landscape belongs
Its earthy greens and ochres suit a study, a living room or a hallway, and pair well with wood, stone and warm light.
