Description
Van Gogh’s Flying Fox, hand-painted in oil
Painted in Nuenen in 1885, Flying Fox is one of Van Gogh’s most unusual works: a large fruit bat, or flying fox, its leathery wings spread wide, painted from a specimen against a deep dark ground. Worked in warm browns and ochres with careful attention to its strange anatomy, it shows his lifelong curiosity about nature and his willingness to find a subject in the most unexpected of creatures.
Our version is a hand-painted oil reproduction, brushed onto canvas by a senior studio artist so the spread wings and earthy tones keep the character of the original.
Where an unusual study belongs
Striking and offbeat, it suits a study, a hallway or a modern interior, and works well against neutral or darker walls.
