Description
Van Gogh’s Garden Behind a House, hand-painted in oil
Painted in Arles in the summer of 1888, this shows a small back garden crowded with flowers, shrubs and greenery running up to the wall of a house under a bright sky. Van Gogh loved the exuberant growth of these southern gardens and painted them in a shower of small, vivid strokes, greens, reds, yellows and blues teeming across the canvas, a fresh, abundant picture of high summer.
Our version is a hand-painted oil reproduction, brushed onto canvas by a senior studio artist so the crowded garden and vivid strokes keep the vitality of the original.
Where a garden scene belongs
Fresh and joyful, it suits a living room, a bedroom or a bright hallway, and pairs beautifully with pale walls, wood and greenery.
