Description
Van Gogh’s Garden of the Asylum, hand-painted in oil
Painted in 1889 at Saint-Rémy, this scene looks into the walled garden where Van Gogh could walk during his stay, its trees and paths worked in rich autumn colour, a solitary figure among them. He painted the enclosed grounds of his refuge many times through the seasons; here the whole garden is alive with rolling, rhythmic strokes, the place that both confined and sheltered him, made warm and vivid.
Our version is a hand-painted oil reproduction, brushed onto canvas by a senior studio artist so the autumn trees and rolling strokes keep the feeling of the original.
Where an autumn garden belongs
Its warm russets and greens suit a living room, a study or a hallway, and pair naturally with wood and warm light.
