Description
Van Gogh’s Giant Peacock Moth, hand-painted in oil
Painted in 1889 in the garden of the Saint-Rémy asylum, Giant Peacock Moth (also called the Emperor Moth) shows a great moth clinging to the green leaves of an arum plant. Van Gogh was struck by the creature’s size and markings, and painted it closely among rich, swirling greens, an unusual, absorbing study of nature from his year in the south.
Our version is a hand-painted oil reproduction, brushed onto canvas by a senior studio artist so the great moth and swirling greens keep the character of the original.
Where an unusual nature study belongs
Absorbing and offbeat, it suits a study, a hallway or a modern interior, and pairs well with greenery, wood and warm light.
