Description
Van Gogh’s Head of a Peasant, hand-painted in oil
Painted in Nuenen around 1884, this study shows the weathered, bearded face of a country man emerging from a dark ground, a cap on his head. One of the many heads Van Gogh painted of the peasants around him, it catches a whole life of outdoor work in the lined features, modelled in the deep browns and greys of his Dutch period with honesty and sympathy.
Our version is a hand-painted oil reproduction, brushed onto canvas by a senior studio artist so the weathered face and earthy tones keep the character of the original.
Where a head study belongs
Grave and characterful, it suits a study, a hallway or a considered interior, and works well against neutral or darker walls.
