Description
Van Gogh’s Kingfisher by the Waterside, hand-painted in oil
Painted near Paris in 1887, Kingfisher by the Waterside is one of Van Gogh’s rare, charming bird studies: a kingfisher perched on a reed above still, dark water, its blue-green plumage catching the light. Worked in fresh, close colour with quick strokes, it shows his sharp eye for nature and his love of the reedy riverbanks around the city, a small, jewel-like picture.
Our version is a hand-painted oil reproduction, brushed onto canvas by a senior studio artist so the bright bird and dark water keep the charm of the original.
Where a nature study belongs
Fresh and jewel-like, it suits a study, a bathroom, a bedroom or a hallway, and pairs beautifully with greenery, wood and soft light.
