Description
Van Gogh’s Plaster Cast Study, hand-painted in oil
Painted in Paris around 1887, this is one of the studies of classical plaster casts Van Gogh made as he trained his hand. A plaster torso is modelled against a coloured ground, its smooth classical form caught with careful attention to light, and, in this later study, with the fresher colour he was learning in Paris. These academic exercises grounded his mastery of drawing and modelling.
Our version is a hand-painted oil reproduction, brushed onto canvas by a senior studio artist so the pale plaster and its ground keep the character of the original.
Where a classical study belongs
Restrained and sculptural, it suits a study, a hallway or a considered modern interior, and works well against neutral walls.
Choose a hand-painted oil or a fine-art print
Order it as a hand-painted oil for genuine brushwork and impasto relief, finished by an experienced painter and made to order, or as an archival fine-art print for a smooth, even finish at a lower price.
