Description
Van Gogh’s Portrait of Camille Roulin, hand-painted in oil
Painted in Arles in 1888, this fresh portrait shows Camille Roulin, the young son of Van Gogh’s good friend the postman Joseph Roulin. The boy in a blue jacket and peaked cap is set against a bright, warm ground, painted with the confident colour and directness of Van Gogh’s Arles portraits. He painted the whole Roulin family with real affection, among the warmest work of his career.
Our version is a hand-painted oil reproduction, brushed onto canvas by a senior studio artist so the young face and bright colour keep the character of the original.
Where a bright portrait belongs
Warm and cheerful, it suits a living room, a study, a hallway or a child’s room, and works well against plain, warm walls.
