Description
Van Gogh’s Rain, hand-painted in oil
Painted at Saint-Rémy in 1889, Rain shows the walled wheat field below the asylum, the whole scene crossed by long diagonal streaks of falling rain scratched across the surface. Inspired by the rain-effects of Japanese prints, Van Gogh turned a grey day into something powerful and almost graphic, the rain sweeping over the green field and distant hills.
Our version is a hand-painted oil reproduction, brushed onto canvas by a senior studio artist so the sweeping rain and green field keep the mood of the original.
Where an atmospheric landscape belongs
Cool and evocative, it suits a study, a living room or a hallway, and pairs well with wood and considered interiors.
