Description
Van Gogh’s Seascape at Saintes-Maries, hand-painted in oil
Painted on a trip to the fishing village of Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer in 1888, this shows the choppy Mediterranean under a big sky, with a few small fishing boats riding the green and blue waves. Van Gogh was thrilled by his first sight of the sea in the south, and painted the restless, ever-changing water in quick, energetic strokes of blue, green and white, fresh, vivid and full of movement.
Our version is a hand-painted oil reproduction, brushed onto canvas by a senior studio artist so the choppy sea and energetic strokes keep the vitality of the original.
Where a seascape belongs
Its fresh blues and greens suit a bedroom, a living room or a bright hallway, and pair beautifully with pale walls, wood and natural light.
