Description
Van Gogh’s Self-Portrait with Grey Felt Hat, hand-painted in oil
Painted in Paris in 1887-88, this is one of the most brilliant of Van Gogh’s many self-portraits. His face, framed by a grey felt hat, is built from countless short strokes of blue, orange and green, while the whole background radiates outward from his head in a halo of dotted colour. It shows him at the peak of his Paris experiments, using his own reflection to master the vibrating colour of Neo-Impressionism.
Our version is a hand-painted oil reproduction, brushed onto canvas by a senior studio artist so the radiating strokes and intense gaze keep the power of the original.
Where a dazzling self-portrait belongs
Bold and iconic, it commands a study, a living room or a hallway, and works best against plain, warm walls.
