Description
Van Gogh’s Still Life with Two Jars and Two Pumpkins, hand-painted in oil
Painted in Nuenen in the autumn of 1885, this generous still life groups two earthenware jars with two big pumpkins on the ground, the ripe harvest worked in warm russets, ochres and green. Van Gogh painted a series of autumn fruit and vegetable still lifes that year to study colour and roundness; here the heavy pumpkins and solid jars are set down with a robust, earthy vigour that speaks of the country harvest.
Our version is a hand-painted oil reproduction, brushed onto canvas by a senior studio artist so the harvest and warm colour keep the abundance of the original.
Where an autumn still life belongs
Its warm harvest tones suit a kitchen, a dining room or a living room, and pair beautifully with wood and warm light.
