Description
Van Gogh’s Thatched Cottages and Houses, hand-painted in oil
Painted at Auvers-sur-Oise in 1890, this picture gathers a group of old thatched cottages, their deep mossy roofs pressed close among trees and gardens. Van Gogh loved these ancient dwellings, which reminded him of the north of his childhood, and painted them in fresh greens and warm ochres with his quick, rhythmic late brushwork, rooted, homely and full of character.
Our version is a hand-painted oil reproduction, brushed onto canvas by a senior studio artist so the mossy roofs and fresh greens keep the feeling of the original.
Where a country scene belongs
Its warm greens and ochres suit a living room, a study or a hallway, and pair naturally with wood and warm light.
