Description
Van Gogh’s The Yellow House, hand-painted in oil
The Yellow House (1888) shows the little house on the Place Lamartine in Arles that Van Gogh rented and painted bright yellow in his mind and on his canvas. It was the home and studio where he dreamed of building a ‘Studio of the South’ with fellow artists, and where he awaited Gauguin. Set against an intense blue sky, the sunlit facade glows with all the hope he pinned on the place.
Our version is a hand-painted oil reproduction, brushed onto canvas by a senior studio artist so the vivid yellow, deep blue sky and clear southern light keep the optimism of the original.
Where this sunny scene works
Cheerful and full of light, it brightens a living room, a hallway, a kitchen or a study, and its yellow-and-blue palette pairs happily with white walls, wood and warm tones.
