Description
Van Gogh’s Three Books, hand-painted in oil
Painted in Paris in 1887, Three Books is a small, spare still life of three of the cheap yellow-covered French novels Van Gogh loved to read, stacked and fanned on a table against a soft ground. Books were a personal symbol for him, modern life, ideas, comfort, and he painted them here in bright yellow and green with quick, direct strokes.
Our version is a hand-painted oil reproduction, brushed onto canvas by a senior studio artist so the yellow books and fresh colour keep the character of the original.
Where a bookish still life belongs
Warm and characterful, it suits a study, a library, a reading nook or a living room, and pairs well with wood and warm light.
