Description
Van Gogh’s Tree Roots, hand-painted in oil
Painted at Auvers-sur-Oise in July 1890 and widely thought to be the last painting Van Gogh worked on, Tree Roots is a dense, almost abstract tangle of gnarled tree roots, trunks and undergrowth on a sunlit bank. There is no sky and no horizon, only a knot of writhing forms in vivid blues, greens, oranges and violets, an astonishing, near-abstract picture of struggle and life pushing out of the earth.
Our version is a hand-painted oil reproduction, brushed onto canvas by a senior studio artist so the tangled roots and vivid colour keep the intensity of the original.
Where a bold, modern picture belongs
Striking and almost abstract, it makes a statement in a living room, a study or a modern interior, and pairs well with contemporary and considered spaces.
