Description
Van Gogh’s Two Peasant Women Digging in a Snowy Field, hand-painted in oil
Painted at Saint-Rémy in early 1890, this is Van Gogh’s coloured version of a design by Jean-François Millet, the artist he revered above all others. Two peasant women bend to dig the hard, snow-covered ground of a winter field. Van Gogh reimagined Millet’s figures entirely in his own cold blues, violets and warm earth, an image of endurance and the unrelenting labour of the poor.
Our version is a hand-painted oil reproduction, brushed onto canvas by a senior studio artist so the bent figures and wintry field keep the character of the original.
