Description
Van Gogh’s Vase with Dead Leaves, hand-painted in oil
Painted in Nuenen in 1884, this quiet still life sets a spray of dried leaves and papery honesty (silver-dollar) seed-pods in a vase against a dark ground. Van Gogh painted the faded plants of autumn as readily as fresh flowers, drawn to their muted colour and delicate, skeletal forms; here the browns, ochres and pale translucent pods are worked in the warm earth tones of his Dutch period with a tender, close attention.
Our version is a hand-painted oil reproduction, brushed onto canvas by a senior studio artist so the dried leaves and warm tones keep the character of the original.
Where a still life belongs
Its warm, muted tones suit a study, a hallway or a living room, and pair well with wood and warm light.
