Description
Van Gogh’s View of the Asylum and Chapel of Saint-Remy, hand-painted in oil
Painted in 1889 during his stay at Saint-Rémy, this warm landscape shows the slender spire of the asylum chapel rising among trees turning russet and gold, a lone figure on the path. Van Gogh painted the grounds of his refuge many times; here the whole scene is worked in rich autumn colour and rolling strokes, the enclosed world of the asylum made warm and alive.
Our version is a hand-painted oil reproduction, brushed onto canvas by a senior studio artist so the autumn trees and chapel spire keep the mood of the original.
Where a warm autumn scene belongs
Its russets and golds suit a living room, a study or a hallway, and pair beautifully with wood and warm light.
