Description
Van Gogh’s View of the Sea at Scheveningen, hand-painted in oil
One of Van Gogh’s earliest seascapes, painted at the fishing resort of Scheveningen near The Hague in 1882, this stormy scene shows a heaving grey-green sea under a threatening sky, a fishing boat and small figures on the beach. He painted it out in the wind and blowing sand, grains of it are still embedded in the paint, capturing the raw power of the North Sea in thick, urgent strokes.
Our version is a hand-painted oil reproduction, brushed onto canvas by a senior studio artist so the stormy sea and heavy sky keep the drama of the original.
Where a dramatic seascape belongs
Moody and powerful, it suits a living room, a study or a hallway, and pairs well with cool tones, wood and considered interiors.
