Description
Van Gogh’s Watermill at Gennep, hand-painted in oil
Painted near Nuenen in 1884, Watermill at Gennep shows an old brick-and-timber watermill standing over its sluice, the still water and bare trees around it worked in the warm browns, greens and greys of Van Gogh’s Dutch period. He painted the watermills of Brabant several times, drawn to their solid, working forms; this is a quiet, rooted picture of the old rural world.
Our version is a hand-painted oil reproduction, brushed onto canvas by a senior studio artist so the old mill and earthy tones keep the mood of the original.
Where a country scene belongs
Its warm, quiet tones suit a study, a hallway or a country-style living room, and pair well with wood and warm light.
