Description
Van Gogh’s Weaver at His Loom, hand-painted in oil
Painted in Nuenen in 1884, this is one of a series in which Van Gogh studied the weavers of Brabant at work. A lone weaver sits framed within the massive dark beams of his wooden loom, almost swallowed by the machine, worked in the deep browns and greys of Van Gogh’s Dutch period. It is a grave, sympathetic picture of humble labour and the dignity of the country craftsman.
Our version is a hand-painted oil reproduction, brushed onto canvas by a senior studio artist so the great loom and earthy tones keep the character of the original.
Where a working scene belongs
Its dark, earthy tones suit a study, a hallway or a considered interior, and pair well with wood and warm light.
