Description
Van Gogh’s Wheat Field with Reaper and Sun, hand-painted in oil
Painted at Saint-Rémy in 1889, this shows a lone reaper cutting his way through a field of golden wheat that fills the canvas, a great yellow sun hanging over the hills beyond. Van Gogh saw the reaper as an image of humanity and mortality, working ‘in a furnace of gold’; here the surging yellows and the small bent figure, painted in swirling strokes, make one of the most radiant and moving of his late wheatfields.
Our version is a hand-painted oil reproduction, brushed onto canvas by a senior studio artist so the golden field and swirling strokes keep the glow of the original.
Where a wheatfield belongs
Warm and radiant, it lights up a living room, a study or a hallway, and pairs beautifully with warm woods, neutral walls and natural light.
