Description
Van Gogh’s Windmills on Montmartre, hand-painted in oil
Painted in 1886, soon after Van Gogh arrived in Paris, Windmills on Montmartre shows the old wooden windmills that still stood on the then half-rural hill of Montmartre, with figures and fences below under a soft sky. It comes from his early Paris months, painted in muted, atmospheric tones as his palette began to lift, a quiet record of a corner of the city soon to disappear.
Our version is a hand-painted oil reproduction, brushed onto canvas by a senior studio artist so the old mills and soft light keep the mood of the original.
Where a Paris scene belongs
Its gentle tones suit a living room, a study or a hallway, and pair well with neutral walls, wood and soft light.
