Description
Van Gogh’s Woman Lifting Potatoes, hand-painted in oil
Painted in Nuenen in 1885, this study shows a peasant woman bent low, lifting potatoes from the dark earth of the field. Van Gogh drew and painted the hard, stooping labour of the country people around him many times, giving their work its full weight and dignity in the deep browns and greys of his Dutch period, grounded, sincere and full of respect.
Our version is a hand-painted oil reproduction, brushed onto canvas by a senior studio artist so the bent figure and earthy field keep the feeling of the original.
Where an earthy figure scene belongs
Its warm, low tones suit a study, a hallway or a country-style interior, and pair well with wood and warm light.
