Description
Van Gogh’s Wood Gatherers in the Snow, hand-painted in oil
Painted in Nuenen in 1884, this atmospheric winter scene shows dark figures gathering brushwood among bare, snow-dusted trees in the fading light of a cold afternoon. Van Gogh was moved by the hard winter labour of the poor and by the melancholy of the leafless wood; here the ghostly trunks, huddled figures and cold, muted tones give the scene a quiet, wintry poetry.
Our version is a hand-painted oil reproduction, brushed onto canvas by a senior studio artist so the snowy wood and huddled figures keep the mood of the original.
Where a winter scene belongs
Its cold, atmospheric tones suit a study, a hallway or a living room, and pair well with wood and considered interiors.
