Description
Van Gogh’s Young Man with Cornflower, hand-painted in oil
Painted at Auvers-sur-Oise in 1890, in the last weeks of his life, this fresh portrait shows a young man holding a single blue cornflower, his ruddy face set against a bright green ground. Van Gogh painted several of the young people of Auvers in these final months; here the warm face, the small blue flower and the vivid green background ring together in fresh, direct colour, a lively, tender portrait of youth.
Our version is a hand-painted oil reproduction, brushed onto canvas by a senior studio artist so the young sitter and fresh colour keep the presence of the original.
Where a portrait belongs
Fresh and characterful, it suits a study, a living room or a hallway, and works well against neutral or pale walls.
