Description
Van Gogh’s Cypresses with Two Figures, hand-painted in oil
Painted at Saint-Rémy in 1889, this shows a pair of towering cypresses rising like dark green flames against a swirling sky, with two small figures walking below and flowering shrubs at their feet. Van Gogh was obsessed by the cypress, which he thought as beautiful as an Egyptian obelisk; here the writhing trunks and rolling clouds, worked in surging strokes, give the tree all its brooding, living energy.
Our version is a hand-painted oil reproduction, brushed onto canvas by a senior studio artist so the flame-like cypresses and swirling sky keep the power of the original.
Where a cypress landscape belongs
Bold and dramatic, it makes a statement in a living room, a study or a stairwell, and pairs well with warm woods and considered interiors.
