Description
Van Gogh’s Portrait of Adeline Ravoux, hand-painted in oil
Painted at Auvers-sur-Oise in 1890, in the last weeks of his life, this portrait shows Adeline Ravoux, the thirteen-year-old daughter of the innkeeper with whom Van Gogh lodged. She sits in profile in a blue dress against a blue ground, her young face grave and dreamy. Painted in cool harmonies of blue with touches of warm flesh, it is a tender, sensitive portrait of a girl on the edge of youth.
Our version is a hand-painted oil reproduction, brushed onto canvas by a senior studio artist so the young sitter and cool blue keep the tenderness of the original.
Where a portrait belongs
Cool and sensitive, it suits a study, a bedroom or a living room, and works beautifully against neutral or pale walls.
