Description
Van Gogh’s The Sower, hand-painted in oil
Painted in Arles in 1888, The Sower is one of Van Gogh’s great symbolic pictures: a peasant strides across a ploughed field scattering seed while a vast yellow-white sun sinks behind him, flooding the scene with light. Inspired by Millet but wholly his own, he set violet earth against gold sky in a blaze of complementary colour, turning a simple act of sowing into an image of hope, renewal and the eternal cycle of the land.
Our version is a hand-painted oil reproduction, brushed onto canvas by a senior studio artist so the striding sower, huge sun and blazing colour keep the power of the original.
Where this symbolic landscape belongs
Bold and warm, it anchors a living room, a study or above a sofa, and pairs beautifully with wood, warm walls and warm light.
