Description
Van Gogh’s Undergrowth with Two Figures, hand-painted in oil
Painted at Auvers-sur-Oise in the summer of 1890, in the last weeks of his life, this immersive woodland shows a couple walking among a screen of slender, close-set tree trunks, with no sky, only the pale trunks, dappled ground and figures. Van Gogh loved these all-over views of the wood; here the vertical trunks and speckled undergrowth are worked in rhythmic strokes of green, violet and white, calm and full of light.
Our version is a hand-painted oil reproduction, brushed onto canvas by a senior studio artist so the trunks and strolling figures keep the mood of the original.
Where a woodland scene belongs
Its cool, immersive tones suit a bedroom, a living room or a bright hallway, and pair beautifully with pale walls, wood and greenery.
